Fashion Week is always a really big deal in NYC. Not only does FW give designers a chance to showcase their upcoming collection for the next season, Spring 2014, but it is also one fantastic party as well!
Fashion Week runs for approximately one week, but usually, designers, press, party goers (crashers) can’t wait for the official day which happened to be Thursday, September 5th and running through Thursday, September 12th.
The first stop for this extravaganza took place in Chelsea with the Ann Yee collection. Upon arrival, yours truly’s name was nowhere to be found. Not a problem, the PR staff invited me in despite receiving an invite and confirming my attendance.
The Ann Yee SS14 Collection was extremely wearable and the cool photo-like panels on the blazer with matching sports was a favorite. For more information, please visit: http://www.annyeecollection.com. Also, while waiting for the elevator, the first-ever Project Runway Winner, Jay McCarroll was keeping a low-profile in the corner of the space. Jay McCarroll happens to be one of the most down-to-earth individuals as well as a very talented designer, yea for Jay McCarroll. Every single time I have met him, he is always genuine and sincere.
The official start of fashion week began with Costello Tagliapietra, this dynamic duo always seems to create the best eco-friendly fabric designs while gaining momentum in other beauty forums. Over at the Kiehl’s store on the Upper East Side, a mannequin sports one of their outfits in this cosmetics store. However, on this afternoon, word was out about Costello Tagliapietra making it impossible to get into the show with the fully-packed attendance at Milk Studios.
The following day, it was over to the Bentley Hotel with a very early-check-in granted courtesy of Peter, the awesome manager. The Bentley Hotel also happens to be the sister property of the Empire Hotel where many other fashion events are taking place in conjunction with Fashion Week.
Unfortunately, the 9:00 a.m. confirmation for Zimmerman was a bit too early, but standing room for Project Runway was offered. Project Runway always packs the house too and this show happened to be delayed for some unknown reason. Glamorous, Heidi Klum, Zac Posen and Tim Gunn stalled the crowd until the designers were ready. Most of the looks were fresh and fun, followed-up by some truly avant-garde looks afterwards.
Lots of great sponsors also set-up shop inside of Lincoln Center including: Maybelline, Caboodles, Papyrus, Smart Water, Samsung’s Galaxy, Ebay Now, Style.com as well as many others.
Stay tuned for more on the fashion front.
