Fashion trends: lady-like details

Ah fashion week.  The time of year when we take a step back and reassess our wardrobes and determine what is necessary for the upcoming months.  While fall and winter are on the minds of designers, we, as consumers, tend to be more focused on the here and now, and the here and now is longing for the months of spring!  Spring is all about ladylike women of leisure.  So snag some spring right off the runway and get a sneak peek of the biggest trends of the upcoming season.

Bows.  Ties.  Bowties.  Any form of ladylike bowties is on trend for spring.  Valentino showed this couture version of the trend recently and proved that the proper posture of a female is not lost on today’s woman.  If you’re looking for a great cocktail dress Forever 21 has created this lace overlay strapless dress with bow trim detail for only $24.80.  H&M has created a gorgeous chiffon blouse with polka dot and bowtie details for only $17.95.  This blouse would look fabulous with a black pencil skirt or a great pair of wide-legged trousers.  One of my favorite bowtie-inspired pieces is this Pins & Needles chiffon tie neck tunic from Urban Outfitters, priced at $59.00.  Try pairing this blouse with a great print skirt or with some wide-legged jeans.

Broken leveled skirts and crisp white blouses were featured prominently on Jason Wu’s spring 2012 runway.  Know that broken leveled skirts are going to be a little pricier.  But one of the best I’ve found is this broken levels skirt from Anthropologie for $138.00.  You can get a great crisp white blouse basically anywhere, however, some great ones that you can snag for cheap can be found at Forever 21 (sheer polka dot blouse; $15.80) or Charlotte Russe (laser cut micro-suede tank; $18.99.)  Pair a great pair of nude heels with this look.

Peter pan collars were featured heavily on Louis Vuitton’s runway and they are flying to stores near you.  These blouses are flattering on every woman and look great for work, the weekend or a night out on the town.  Want a classic white peter pan-collared blouse?  Check out this collared sheer top from Forever 21 for $15.80.  Looking for something a little brighter?  Urban Outfitters has recently put this Pins & Needles pointelle collar pullover in coral on sale for only $19.99 (formerly $49.00!)  And if you’re looking for an investment blouse, take a peek at this cropped lace blouse in green from Anthropologie for $128.00.

Classic white lace dresses are always chic.  Erdem put out a stunning dress for London Fashion Week and thus made the classic attainable for the masses.  One of the prettiest pieces I found was from Forever 21.  This paisley lace shift dress is only $22.80.  H&M is known for making runway looks for the everyday woman and with this trend, they are right on track.  This white lace dress is $29.95.  And one of the most eclectic versions I found is this Lucca Couture bodycon lace midi dress for $69.00.  Pair some nude or pop-colored heels with any of these looks.

50s-inspired prints are all the rage for spring and Carolina Herrera was at the forefront of the movement.  I am in love with this bike lane dress from Anthropologie.  While a tad pricey at $158.00, this dress is stunning and will last a long time.  If you’re looking for something a bit more budget-friendly, try this floral dress with belt from Forever 21 for only $26.90.  Looking for another affordable frock?  Charlotte Russe’s zip-front woven floral dress is stunning at only $24. 99.  With these dresses, don’t go with the expected black or nude pumps.  Take a pop color from the dress and find a matching heel.  It’ll add a hint of whimsy to your outfit!
