While the Critics Choice Awards was less colorful than the People’s Choice Awards, because many in the room wore bland black dresses or even skirt or pant suits, some trends worthy of mentioning were demonstrated. The big trends were embellishments and cutouts.
Celebrities have been wearing embellished gowns for years, like types covered with sequins and crystals. While there were many of those types, there were a few new trends. Some celebs at the award show opted for a little more conservative look with a beaded or sequined neckline. Others took a bolder approach by choosing embellishment that is in line with current winter and spring trends, such as a lace dress embellished with appliquéd flowers.
Strategic cutouts also were well represented. A strategic cutout can give a conservative or dated dress a more fresh and modern look. Some celebs wore dresses with high necklines with a cutout right below the neck. Most women can wear this style easily for a date or another night out. Other celebs had a cutout in their dress, but filled in with a sheer fabric.
