About Custo Barcelona:
The line feels like a throwback to Custo Barcelona’s 80’s roots with a modern take on color and pattern. The brand is a mid tier level clothing line that every day fashionistas can afford, but that offers the incredible luxury of great cuts and amazing fabrics. Fun off the shoulder looks mixed with tribal and tie dye print give off a cool modern indie vibe.
The CFF had the opportunity to get some background on the trends that are the lifeblood of the Custo Barcelona Summer 2011 Line. The top 2 elemental trends that make up the line include: ornamentation and functionality. The main inspiration for the season is the whimsy and laid back feel of music festivals.
These ideas intertwine tremendously with the fact that the brand caters to not only women, but men and kids as well (and as a fashion forward mommy, I think this rocks because I always want my mini me to look as fly as me).
Here are the trends and inspiration:
Ornamentation: Pieces which are artisanal, handmade and special; clothing that one would wear for a night out on the town. The inspiration is drawn from the movement of a Calder mobile.
Functionality: Pieces which are familiar and utilitarian; also known as “everyday clothes” or outdoor dressing.
Music Festivalsare what drive this inspiration this season. The result of this dichotomy is the discovery of new textures on one hand, and of new and more architectonic volumes on the other. These textures and volumes are created by intertwining geometric shapes with feathers and shiny embroidery and also by adding shots of neon into the mixed graphics. A toned down and subtle color palette (nude, Aquamarine, turquoise, caramel, honey, etc.) is combined with fluorescent, fuchsia, green and yellow.
The collection is an ode to pure geometry, where the pieces are created by the surprising mix among forms, empty space and color. How Romantic is that idea?! This is quintessential CUSTO.
