Cuff bracelets are a major trend for the Fall/Winter seasons. Really, they are a classic piece that is timeless, but it is fun when designers show cuffs on the runways because that means they are even more ‘haute’ than usual! These bracelets can be made from fine, precious and semi-precious materials – or one can enjoy this trend with costume jewelry, man-made materials and leather as well. Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Macy’s and Dillard’s all have jumped on the cuff bandwagon, but so have stores like Target, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21, so you are sure to find one for yourself or for a friend this holiday season.
While this trend arguably started with the spring 2011 runway shows, other people have insisted that cuffs are a basic that has never left. Diana Vreeland and Coco Chanel started this cuff trend, and one can use their style as inspiration. Personally, I have cuffs in both gold and silver that I wear all the time and have owned for years. Unlike many apparel trends, accessory trends like cuffs are wonderful as they transition through the seasons and can work with everyone. Gold can accent a neutral business dress look (black shift or suit) and can help a look go from daytime to evening in a snap. Silver or bejeweled cuffs can glam up a white tee-shirt and jeans, making an ordinary outfit special.
To ensure that you do not look too ‘done up,’ a safe approach is if you are wearing a cuff, wear a pair of earrings or a necklace that coordinates. Do not wear a full set of jewelry, a cuff is minimalist in nature so do not fight that. Do not wear additional bracelets of different textures with a cuff, as that would take away from the elegance of the cuff bracelet itself. However, different textures of cuff bracelets were shown grouped together on an arm, so that is another approach on how to wear this look.
How do you wear your cuff bracelets? Do you stack them together? Do you wear one on each wrist (like a superhero or Diana Vreeland)?
