Earlier this month I walked into the conference room at the office and sitting at the table were two young ladies. One was there for help with a project and the other was working on her Mac Book. Looking over her shoulder I saw this amazing black and white photo, that was the day I met Winter Savage.
Winter Savage from Newport News, Virginia was born in the 80's and loves bold and bright colors. The only girl of four siblings and believes because of that mere fact, she has developed a keen eye for fashion especially towards styling men.
Francine Humphrey:Winter what was been your greatest inspiration?
Winter Savage:My mother passed away when I was very young and for that reason I fell in love with the femininity and vivaciousness of fashion, which enabled me to understand the essence of womanhood. I strongly admire CoCo Chanel because she is one of the most renowned fashion designers of all time, and she was also motherless. Fashion is much more than materialistic trends, brand-names, prices, and fads to me. I'm very versatile and love to style avant garde, haute couture, editorial, minimalistic and dernier cri. Fashion is a way of life.
FH:How would you describe fashion today?
WS: Every thing that human beings do on a daily basis is done in some sort of fashion right? So it is safe to say that today's fashion has its own place in society that influences the world, creates a balance and establishes a universal understanding.
FH:Can you elaborate?
WS:What do I mean by this? Lets think about it. We go to work in semi-casual, uniform or business attire. We all wear undergarments under our clothes and retire to bed in nightwear. This order reveals to us exactly how fashion serves a purpose to regulate our lives in its own very distinct way. This is the core reason why I embrace the world of fashion from every aspect of life.
FH:Winter you love fashion, with so many avenues, why did you choose to be a stylist?
WS:I began styling because I enjoy captivating people's interests simply through having a sense of style. In addition, I love the pictures we can paint with clothing. It truly amazes me how we can SPEAK with our clothing without ever uttering a word. My goal is to enable people to gain confidence and self efficiency while looking impeccable. And what I mean by impeccable has nothing to do with the cost, but more about how we wear our selected clothing by bringing everything together in our own way. Life is about expressing ourselves and embracing our individual uniqueness.
Throughout the last two years, I have had a chance to work with some great artists including photographers, models, designers and fellow fashion stylist. I have been published in my two magazines entitled Essere Magazine and Endee Magazine.
FH:So what happening now in the world of Winter Savage?
WS:I just had one the greatest opportunities to style in Fashion Week Brooklyn as a head Stylist for a designer named John Guarnes. This is only the beginning I looking forward to my growth in the fashion industry. I’m planning a trip to Paris next year and want to link fashion and social work together. I want to improve the self esteem of others and equip them to feel confident and love themselves inside and out.
Let’s all stay FASHIONABLY correct.
