Celebrity fashion stylist Fallon Seaborn is an entrepreneur who has the talent to make her clients like comedians Katt Williams and Leslie Jones look sharp, but she works with others who guide her in daily business operations.
"I run my business with a team. I have an entertainment lawyer, accountant, and a publicist. My team really helps me with business decisions on how to market myself, saving money and how to reinvest."
At age 16 in her native Detroit, Fallon got hired as the youngest employee of a high-end boutique The Broadway and credits a mentor, Dennis Greene, for laying a career foundation.
She literally flipped a coin to later choose Los Angeles instead of New York and has faced challenges and reaped rewards in her fashion styling and design business.
"I've been living in California since 2007. I was introduced to Katt Williams from the reality TV star Deelishis. I was working for Deelishis as her assistant and fashion stylist at the time. Once she introduced me to Katt Williams I was working for his company the following month."
She told me what makes her work unique and spoke to the challenges of running a fashion design business.
"I fuse street and couture styles together. My clothing line will be sexy with a twist of art. I think my followers will really appreciate the way I incorporated both worlds.
"The biggest challenge of my career was the lack of start up finances and other artists trying to steal my work. I've overcome my obstacles by having my accountant teach me how to make lucrative investments, and my lawyer has taught me how to protect my work from other artists who try to plagiarize me."
Her goals in the next 5 years include having a women's clothing line, her own showroom in Los Angeles, and a book of poetry published and on the market.
Fallon says her faith in God gives her an optimistic outlook for the future and advises anyone starting a business to keep God first, believe in yourself, and never stop no matter how hard it gets.
