Fashion photographer Juergen Teller refused to photograph Miley Cyrus

Followers of the Marc Jacobs fashion brand and ad campaigns may have noticed something different in the label’s latest photo ad—it was not shot by longtime Jacobs collaborator, Juergen Teller. Known for his stark, Polariod-style work featuring models and celebrities like Dakota Fanning, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sofia Copolla, Teller turned down the photo assignment starring Jacobs muse, Cyrus.

The ad, photographed instead by Robert Sims, depicts a much more subdued Miley Cyrus on a darkened beach, with two models/friends lingering nearby. Cyrus is fully clothed, unlike the completely nude photo campaign she did in 2013 for Marc Jacobs, and gazes somberly at us. The photo is more successful at creating a mood and highlighting the actress-singer’s countenance than at displaying this year’s line of fashions.

In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Jacobs stated, “I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist. He just didn’t want to shoot her.” While Teller has not released any statement of his own on the matter, his refusal of the assignment perhaps says all one needs to know about his position on the Pop music starlet and her wild antics as of late.
