The 92nd Street Y was filled with industry-goers and socialites as they came out to listen to Vera Wang in the hot seat with fashion industry leader and award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week Fern Mallis at the Fashion Icons Talks with Vera Wang hosted by MARTINI Sparkling Wines.
Highlights from the in-depth interview included Vera Wang dishing on how got into fashion. The designer moved to Paris with her boyfriend at the time, where she discovered her love of fashion. Upon returning, one of her first jobs back in New York City was working in retail at the YSL store on Madison Avenue. While in the store, she met a Vogue editor Polly Mellen who told her to call her when she gets out of college. Wang ended up getting hired after graduating from Sarah Lawrence.
She also credits Sharon Stone as being one of the first celebrities to wear her line. Perhaps one of our favorite moments was her recanting the night she won her CFDA Award and not wanting her children there (in case she lost). Vogue's Anna Wintour told Wang, "get your children here. I don't sit next to losers."
After the ninty minute sit down, MARTINI hosted a private reception where the pint-size former figure skater was all smiles and posed for pictures, including a picture with Fern Mallis and a magnum bedazzled bottle of MARTINI Asti with the designer's name in silver Swarovski crystals.
