Fashion Icon: Daniel Craig (Photos)

I know what you’re thinking and you’re right, being “James Bond” is an unfair advantage, of course you are going to look great being known the world over as 007. And while many men wish they had Tom Ford on speed dial to spin up a new custom suit, Daniel Craig earns the Fashion Icon status for what he is able to accomplish sartorially off screen more than on it.

Not since Sean Connery, a Scotsman born of a truck driver and he himself a former milkman has there been a better back story to the Bond actor’s lineage. A child of the north of England and the son of a pub owner, Daniel paid his dues through acting school, the British stage and finally in a number of fine supporting roles on the big screen. It took many years of hard work and grinding it out for Daniel to get what some say is the most notable role in motion picture history. What’s more, there was great pushback and some global outrage at his appointment as Ian Fleming’s spy with the license to kill back in 2005. “Too dark, too broody, not tall enough, wrong fit altogether” were just some of the printable things being said about Craig’s Bond before a single frame had been shot.

Fast forward 8 years and Craig is one of Hollywood’s biggest names and most bankable stars, with three Bond films under his belt and another in the works. With a reputation as a sort of “everyman’s actor” he is admittedly averse to the limelight and the notoriety that has befallen him these past few years but he seems to constantly handle himself with class and dignity.

Whether it is on the red carpet, decked out in three piece suit in promotion of the Bond franchise, or doing the talk show circuit while canvassing the globe, Mr. Craig is one cool customer, mixing high fashion with high street looks while navigating an airport, spending down time between movie projects or walking the streets of New York while running errands.

All the while Craig exudes a kind of classy and distinguished British fashion sensibility. Some might argue that anyone can cut a dashing figure in a high priced custom made suit, and while Craig is no exception, it’s the way he looks and carries himself when “off duty” that make him one of the the most recognizable fashion icons around today. To add further insult to injury toward the rest of us, having Rachel Weisz on your arm really doesn’t hurt much either, now does it?
