As we step into a new year, we anticipate the introduction of the new, a fresh start. Clearing out the old and refreshing with new in many part of our lives. It is a great time to consider how we would like our new year to be and look. Starting with ourselves and reflecting that new attitude!
Let’s hit the Restart Button. Beginning of a new year brings a bit of a new you. So head to your closet and clear out what does not support the new you. As we know, fashion trends come and go. Embrace the ones that make you feel your best and ignore the rest. Don’t be a slave to fashion and follow trends that don’t enhance your physical self or personality. Have fun with trends, but invest in style. As the year closes, reflecting on who and where you have been brings perspective to where you want to go in the new.
Make a list of your lifestyle i.e. mom, professional, social volunteer, yoga and travel junkie. Toss out any items that may not fit the new you from your wardrobe and make room for more enhancing pieces.
As an example, if you are introducing a softer more feminine side with the intent to invite a new relationship or enhance a current one now that the kids are grown, this spring’s color trend includes “ballet” pink. A very soft pink which will present a very soft side. However, be sure that the color does not wash you out. If so, select another trend of bright floral patterns. Invest in style that presents a more feminine look like ruffled neck lines, skirts with flow and movement as well as dresses that are less structured that wrap or tie.
With the new year, re-evaluate your classics pieces such as black pumps, white blouse, fitted jacket and well fitting denim. See which items need to be replaced with a fresher more updated version of these classics. Look for any fraying of edges, pilling of knits or scuffed leather. Start the year in the best position to be the best year yet!
