Fashion for Las Vegas thrill seekers: What to wear at Mt. Charleston

The coolest getaway from the desert heat is Mount Charleston, located in Las Vegas, and just 35 miles away from The Strip. Nestled amongst the Spring Mountains, Mt. Charleston looms about 12,000 feet above sea level and temperatures are typically 20 to 30 degrees cooler. The invigorating mountain air and ice cold springs make this place one of Las Vegas' favorite attractions year round. Activities are endless, as are the many opportunities to accessorize while enjoying this fabulous vacation.

When visiting during ski season, which can sometimes extend past Memorial Day, combine function with fashion and pack a great pair of Gucci ski goggles. This style, shown in the slide show, comes in three variations and retail at $195. You can get this fabulous eye protection at Gucci.com and at  Gucci boutiques on Las Vegas Blvd.

Ski, snowboard, or just lounge around in designer snow boots by Christian DiorBurberry or even Jeremy Scott by Adidas. Have a relaxing dinner at the lodge in a snug pair of Jimmy Choo Uggs, with your choice of fringe, studs or Tibetan fur details.

Fair Isle prints are popular for ski resort fashion, and the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 collection delivers big time. Cozy up to these winter wonderland patterns in virgin wool body suits, tube top style dresses and look smoking hot while hitting the slopes, in a long sleeved one piece jumper. You can opt for a lighter fabric when indoors. Hang out with your fancy friends in a sheer silk-chiffon D&G blouse, and shearling shorts by Paul & Joe.

For a warm weather stay, ride an authentic mustang horse accompanied by real cowboys, through the rustic mountains, or hike the 40 mile high desert trails. It's important to follow the rules of functional fashion here, especially during this time of year. The most stylish visitor has to be comfortable and safe to enjoy these summer activities.

Pack long sleeves in light breathable fabric for layering, and wear clothes that are comfortable and well-fitting. Skinny jeans are an option when horseback riding, but a boot cut jean or leather chaps may be more suitable. If you wear riding gloves, choose a thin pair with a leather palm to prevent slipping. Women should wear sports bras and tie up long hair. Never wear sneakers. Hard toed leather shoes or boots with a one inch heel are best for riding and if you decide to wear cowboy boots, don't tuck in your jeans. Avoid sleeveless tops and noisy waterproof jackets. Always ride with your coat or jacket fastened, and don't attempt to take off pieces of clothing while mounted. Although it's always more appealing to sport a little bling, this can be dangerous, so leave your jewelry at home.

You can find the Earth Hype tall riding boot at HSN for about $100, and other riding accessories at theequestriancorner.com

Get great hiking accessories at any sporting goods store. Keep your hands free with high quality walkie talkie watches and a high end backpack, essential for serious hikers and backpackers, and the Oakley Kitchen Sink Backpack is an excellent choice. The Keen Targhee II mid hiking boot is the go-to footwear for both men and women.

Have fun on your next visit and always remember to be safe and stylish when thrill seeking in Las Vegas!
