Fashion executive Vittorio Missoni and others missing after plane disappears

Italian fashion executive Vittorio Missoni is missing after his plane disappeared off the coast of Venuzuela on Jan. 4, Reuters reported today.

There were six passengers on the plane, including Missoni, 58, his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, and four other people. The plane reportedly disappeared shortly after taking off from Venezuela’s Los Roques resort archipelago for Caracas.

"It disappeared yesterday. They have been looking for it with helicopters and ships, but have not found anything yet. They are still searching for it this morning," the Italian consul in Venezuela, Giovanni Davoli, told Reuters.

Missoni is the director general of the iconic Missoni fashion brand and eldest son of the company’s founders Ottavia and Rosita Missoni. A rep for the brand told Reuters that Missoni's relatives had been notified of his disappearance.

"The Missoni family has been informed by the Venezuelan consulate that Vittorio Missoni and his wife are missing," spokeswoman Maddalena Aspes said. "We don't know any more."
