Fashion editor Jillian Mercado is the face new for Diesel. The 26-year-old has sparked interest because she’s the first wheelchair-bound model to pose for the brand. She talked to Matt Lauer on the “Today Show” about her campaign on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Mercado told Lauer that anyone can wear Diesel. It doesn’t matter what size or body type that person is.
Mercado said, “Diesel is a company where everyone can wear it. You don’t have to look like a model to wear it. And I feel like these photos just show that. Every photo that they release, someone can relate to it. And that’s rare in the fashion industry, to be able to relate and say, ‘You know that’s me in that photo, through that person.’”
Mercado deals with judgments over her looks on a daily basis. She’s aware that the fashion industry can be a shallow and image obsessed industry. She doesn’t let the judgments from close-minded people bother her.
Mercado has a close support system of family and friends that help boost her self-confidence.
Jillian Mercado also held a Q&A on Reddit on Sunday, Jan. 26. Fans asked her questions about her personal style and her big break into the fashion industry.
