Fashion in Detroit designer lineup

Fashion in Detroit has just recently announced their spectacular designer line up for the 2010 show which will occur on October 22 & October 23, 2010 .  If you think the designer line up last year was amazing, take a moment and check out the list  this year.  A few experienced faces will be bringing some hot new surprises while a few fresh faces are planning to rock your socks off,   I guarantee it. This two day fashion extravaganza will entail six designers on day one and six designers on day 2.  Read below and learn more about the exceptional designer list.  All who will be showcasing their designs on the FAshion in Detroit runway.

Designer Descriptions:

1. Adriana Pavon is a fashion designer and business consultant for Creative Energy Group.  She is the original winner of Fashion in Detroit’s local designer competition which started last year.  At a very young age, Adriana was emersed in the family buisness and had a great understanding for apparel production including what it takes to manage mass productions and how to create admired designs. She was born in Mexico City and is known for selecting luxurious fabrics for her pieces and has the ability to bring true quality and perfection into her collection. www.creativeenergy-online.com

2. Geftaki/ Julie Lindsay
Geftaki Swimwear is well known among celebrities and is carried by The Palms, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and The Venetian Resorts in Las Vegas, Nevada. A local designer named Trisha Geftos has been designing for Geftaki since 2003 and her unique vision and talents have brought much attention to Geftaki.  Metro Detroiters can find Geftaki Swimwear at Poshh in Ann Arbor and Essence Clothing in West Bloomfield just to name a few of our favorites. Geftaki Swimwear will share the runway with fellow Detroiter Julie Lindsay.  Lindsay is a handbag designer that started her dream in 2004 and has been featured in InStyle Magazine. 3. Student Show
This year’s Student Show features quite a few of the best Michigan designers of tomorrow.. The schools participating in this year event include: Western Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, International Academy of Design & Technology, Michigan State University, Northwood University, and Wayne State University .

4. English Laundry
 Christopher Wicks is an England-born designer and the brains behind English Laundry.  English Laundry is known for its swanky sportswear and Wicks is to blame for the hype. Wicks has also recently been awarded the 2010 Man of the Year by  the Fashion Industry Guild of Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He is inspired by music from the 60′s and 70′s.  English Laundry can be found at Showtime in Detroit.www.englishlaundry.com

5. Ines Di Santo
Ines Di Santo has been designing gowns since the age of fifteen and is well known for her bridal couture.  Her collection can be found at  Bergdorf Goodman and our very ownelegant bridal boutique, Roma Sposa, in Birmingham. The Italian-born Di Santo resides and designs in Canada. Toronto to be exact.  www.inesdisanto.com

6. Peter Hidalgo
Hidalgo is a Dominican Republic born designer and originally launched his solo career with the introduction of his Fall/ Winter 2006-07 collection during New York Fashion Week. He has since been featured in Women’s Wear Daily and The New York Times. Fashion Group International, the global non-profit organization composed of members from fashion and design-related industries, recently honored Hidalgo with the Rising Star Award in Women’s Apparel. DAY 2

1. Femilia Couture
Femilia Couture was established by designers Fotoula Lambros and Emily Thornhill in January 2007. These two adorable designers met while completing their degrees at the International Academy of Design and Technology. After graduating, they decided to stay  in Metro Detroit to pursue a high-end fashion label that offers one-of-a-kind couture clothing. Their designs consist of dresses, skirts, blouses, corsets and straples jumpsuits. All designs are handmade by Fotoula and Emily in their Ferndale workshop and are now being made  with natural based fibers and sustainable materials. Femilia Couture wowed the Fashion in Detorit crowd last year and they are ready to do it again this year.  http://femiliacouture.blogspot.com

2. Christiane LaRue by Bonnie Foley
Local designer Bonnie Foley launched her clothing line, Christiane LaRue,  features luxurious fabrics such as French lace, silk jersey and silk charmeuse imported from Italy. From jumpsuits and short dresses to maxi dresses and tops, Foley’s focus is on  flattering designs. Foley’s line is available to purchase at her showroom in Birmingham. www.christianelarue.com

3. Moosejaw
Moosejaw is the hippest company to specialize in outdoor apparel and gear for snowboarding, rock climbing, hiking and camping. The Authorized North Face Retailer first opened in Keego Harbor, Michigan in 1992.   Moosejaw has won many awards including; Top 50 retailer by Internet Retailer (2007), a Top 50 retailer by Bizrate (2006), Best of the Web by Forbes magazine, and a Top 500 Retailer by Internet Retailer. 4. Heike Jarick
Heike Jarick, a German-born designer known for her elaborate fabric selections.  She  is the master of integrating draped designs with tailored textures. The New York-based designer has served as design director and consultant for international designer brands such as Yohji Yamamoto Group in Japan. In addition to creating her own line, Jarick specializes in designing outerwear, launching VIA SPIGA Coats and Outerwear, and bringing the DKNY Outerwear license to a $20 million business. 5. Prophetik
Eight years ago, Jeff Garner launched Prophetik in the small town of Franklin, Tennessee. A sustainable men’s and womenswear label with a romantic renaissance flair, Prophetik is focused on combining environmentally friendly materials with much attention to detail. Garner has dresses several top celebrities including:  Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and the Jonas brothers. Garner places great importance on awareness and giving, donating proceeds from each show to a charity whose mission reflects the Prophetik philosophy. 6. Motor City Denim Co. by Joe Faris
Joe Faris, a Troy resident, who first became a household name on Season 5 of Project Runway, is a co-founder of Fashion In Detroit. He is also  the mastermind behind Motor City Denim Co. Faris has taken the first step towards establishing an apparel industry in southeastern Michigan. The collection for men and women includes jeans, skirts, dresses, western shirts, outerwear and accessories. Branded “Industrial Couture”, the collection will mix high-fashion elements with an industrial edge, such as evening dresses made of denim.
