Fashion: best Grammy 2013 red carpet looks (Photos)

In spite of a marked lack of stars (remember when these things were nothing but a screamfest for Michael, or Britney or Madonna) the few big stars on the carpet put on a classier red carpet parade than normal. The powers that be sent out a memo begging Grammy attendees to refrain from showing too much cleavage and bottom cheek, so the ladies were covered up (mostly) in costly couture.

Just to let you know: in spite of my earlier promise in the Golden Globes story, a lack of entertainment led to some snarky comments about people's clothing. I know it's not nice, but neither is tax season.

Katy Perry led the glam wave with a seafoam green Gucci dress fit for a goddess. The keyhole neckline (we'll be hearing about this one for a long time) displayed an ample amount of breast, but the semi-precious jeweled collar sewn at her neckline kept it somewhat elegant.

Beyonce forewent her usual body-flaunting gear for a demure Osman Yousefzada jumpsuit, with black and white top. Her hair was in a sleek ponytail, in stark contrast to the massive weave she threw around at the Superbowl earlier this month. The simple red lip worked wonders. She looked tres chic, although a bit plain. You could wear this outfit to the office with a jacket and then sashay out to dinner.

Adele looked interesting in her red Valentino and won some awards.

Janelle Monae stayed true to form in a rockabilly-ish tuxedo with gilded embroidery on the jacket's lapels. There was a hat involved, not neccessarily in a good way, but it was there. Perched on the back of her head like a reverse negative halo.

Rihanna went with Azzedine Alaia and Chris Brown was there, too. After leading the fashion/music pack with power-shifting hair and avant garde styling, Ms. Robyn Fenty walked the red carpet looking like the girl who had us at 'Pon De Replay'.

Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine represented expected rock eccentricity, by wearing an emerald green (color of the year!) Givenchy gown with sequined studs on the shoulders, arms, and back. She looked like the most awesome version of Godzilla ever. EVER.

New comer Kimbra Lee Johnson fluttered prettily in a Jaime Lee Major original.

The country girls brought the heat, with Taylor Swift posing in a pleated J Mendel column, and Faith Hill looking tres elegant, and also in J Mendel. Carrie Underwood wowed in a shapely black strapless Roberto Cavalli gown and 380 carats worth of diamond necklace.
