The 86th annual Academy Awards were held on Sunday, March 2nd, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood – honoring achievements in film over the past year. There were several gowns worn that were embellished or beautifully structured. But before we discuss those, a short comment on the somewhat boring looks of the night. Both Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence chose a strapless column gown in a solid color – Adams in blue and Lawrence in orange-red. As nominees, they could have chosen something more elegant or show-stopping.
A few of the fashion stand-outs wearing darker tones were Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, and Idina Menzel. Sandra Bullock looked absolutely stunning in a navy sweetheart neckline gown, with structural draping down the front and a train in the back. Charlize Theron chose black for her gown, but it stood out because it gave her an hourglass figure and also had a long train. Idina Menzel looked lovely also, wearing a structurally gathered gown with a sweetheart neckline in a muted forest green shade.
The rest of the ladies who were also fashion stand-outs wore pale tones or shine (silver or gold). Worth special mention from this list were Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Kristin Chenoweth, Kate Hudson, and Jennifer Garner. Jenna Dewan-Tatum drew attention in a nude and pale gray gown with a bodice encrusted with tiny sequins and pearls that caught the light. Kristin Chenoweth took cues from Oscar himself, wearing a fitted gown in shining gold. Kate Hudson also shone in a muted silver dress with a deep v-neck and detachable cape sleeves. Jennifer Garner gave a nod to 1920’s fashion in a shimmery silver gown with seven layers of fringe composing the skirt.
That highlights the best notes of this year’s Oscars’ fashion. You will find all the gowns discussed here and several more in the accompanying slideshow. Enjoy!
