Getthebuzz716: Tell me a little about your brand. Where are you from?
Porte: Porte means "to wear" in French. We are a startup brand based out of Toronto, with our first store launching this summer.
Getthebuzz716: What does fashion week Fashion Art Toronto mean to you?
Porte: Fashion is growing in Toronto, and we support any events that can help it grow.
Getthebuzz716: How would you define your Brand?
Porte: We are a designer brand that creates charismatic fashions for both men and women. We believe that fashion is a statement, it's a way to personify attitude. Our slogan is "Wear your attitude. Make a statement."
Getthebuzz716: How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?
Porte: It differs from piece to piece. Some pieces can take days, others, depending on the design process and artistic expression can take weeks.
Getthebuzz716: Describe the general process you go through to design and what’s your favorite part about conceptualizing a design?
Porte: We try to exemplify the attitudes of the present day. That means creating pieces that are bold and also contrasting pieces that are milder. We enjoy playing around with patterns and colors depending on the textiles that we can obtain.
Getthebuzz716: What matters to you most as a designer?
Porte: I think it's important to never lose your artistic integrity. This means creating bold pieces that may be contrary to what the current day trend is.
Getthebuzz716: What do you believe makes a quality design?
Porte: The soul of the designer must go into the work. You need to have the attitude of the statement you are trying to make.
Getthebuzz716: How would you define the style your line exemplifies? *What are some of your fashion goals?
Porte: Our line represents a transition into spring. This winter was especially harsh, and as such our design reflects the slow metamorphosis. It's a very cautious transition, much like the long winter that we've had.
Getthebuzz716: What other experience do you have in the fashion industry (stylist, retail, marketing, etc.)?
Porte: We participated in other Fashion events, and have retail and styling experience.
Getthebuzz716: What are your favorite patterns/materials [prints] to work with and why?
Porte: Porte Handmade We especially enjoys creating our own prints and patterns. It's a bit more work, but allows our creativity to soar.
