According to Daniel Austin of the Calgary Sun on Saturday, Kent Farrington of the United States won the 2014 ATCO Power Queen Elizabeth II Cup, the second significant equestrian event at Spruce Meadows (south Calgary) in the calendar year. Riding Voyeur, a Dutch Warmblood, Farrington won his third grand prix at Spruce Meadows in the last two years.

Farrington, was one of 14 riders to record zero faults in the first round of the competition. However, the second round was much more difficult for the riders, as nobody rode without a fault. Farrington rode clean like he did in round one, but had one time fault for riding in 77.4 seconds, over the allotted time.

Paulo Santana of Brazil finished in second place and Quentin Judge of the United States finished in third place. Judge's time in roud two was excellent at 69.3 seconds, over eight seconds faster than Farrington's, but could not jump a clean round.

Three Canadians--Tiffany Foster of Vancouver, British Columbia, Ian Millar of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Yann Candele of Caledon, Ontario each jumped clean in round one but were unable to in round two as each had five second round faults. Foster, Millar and Candele would finish fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

Canadian Olympic champion Eric Lamaze of Montreal, Quebec did not advance to the second round after he had four faults in round one while riding Power Play. Lamaze finished 20th.

The only other Canadian in the field was Ben Asselin of Calgary. Riding on Doremi, a Belgian Warmblood owned by Linda Southern-Heathcott, Asselin had eight faults and finished 26th.

It was also a poor day for Jaime Azcarraga of Mexico, who finished in 23rd. Azcarraga won the first significant event at Spruce Meadows this year at the RBC Grand Prix in June.
