FarmVille, Mafia Wars promotion begins at 7-Eleven stores

Facebook social games FarmVille, Mafia Wars and YoVille are now appearing in your local 7-Eleven store with exclusive virtual gifts. Zynga, the social gaming firm that created these popular games, is in partnership with 7,000 7-Eleven convenience stores, offering some fun incentives for gamers.

The promotion was slated to start June 1 but many report that it's already in progress.

The summer promotion will allow millions of consumers the ability to redeem exclusive virtual items with Zynga games at their local 7-Eleven store.

Farmville, YoVille and Mafia Wars fans will be able to purchase specially marked products to receive a redemption code that can be used for a new, limited-edition virtual item in one of three Zynga games.

The 7-Eleven FarmVille Zynga promotion includes a big gift for Farmville fans: Earn $200 in Farmville cash by unlocking ÜBER Gifts and redeeming credits.

How does the promotion work?

To play, find specially marked products at your local 7-Eleven store. Then visit BuyEarnPlay.com to register, sync up with your Facebook account and redeem codes. Your virtual gifts will be immediately available within the appropriate Zynga game.

Big Gulps and Slupree drink codes are redeemable within any of the three games.

Redeem multiple 7-Eleven product types to bring home special ÜBER gifts. You’ll need to redeem five to eight Buy.Earn.Play. credits as well as complete one to three Zynga tasks.

Of course, there's a limit. Daily redemption is limited to 10 total gifts per day, and 3 gifts per product type

Although Zynga's Facebook games are free to play, there are virtual goods that cost real money. With more than 30 product incentives in the new promotion with 7-Eleven, users will be able to buy a real product at the convenience store and turn that into a virtual item on their game of choice.

This... is amazing! Something that started as a simple game on Facebook grew to the number one status update in 2009 ("It was indeed the year of the Farm".) And now, we're seeing real tangible manifestations of this digital product's permeation into the physical world. I mean sure, I hid the updates from my feed... but next time I see some Farmville Ice Cream at 7-eleven, the temptation might just creep beyond my chocolate craving and dare I say... make me try the actual game?!

Would this have anything to do with Farmville's numbers dropping?
