The city of Farmington, MI is unusual in that each February it turns the town over to the fairies for an entire weekend. This year, the Farmington Faerie Gathering takes place February 20-22 in the city’s downtown district.
The Farmington Faerie Gathering is the creation of two of the city’s business owners: Diane Rothman, owner of The Sacred Sage, and Michele Hinds, owner of The Vines Flower and Garden Shop. Diane told the Fairies Examiner:
“Michele and I love faeries and wanted to celebrate in a big way all of their wonderful appreciation of the wonders of life: magic, music, dancing, food, escape from the seriousness of life, and a little mischief too! It is important for lovers of the faerie realm to have a place to gather together, so when we couldn’t find another gathering nearby we created our own. With the support of the Farmington Downtown Development Authority we were able make our faerie gathering a city-wide event that attracts faeries from the tri-county area.”
This special fairy gathering features a series of events spread out over the weekend. Fairy events include:
Faerie Door Scavenger Hunt through participating downtown Farmington shops. Feb. 20-22: There will be two hunts, one for adults and one for children. Free activity.
Players will receive a goody bag with a scavenger hunt play card that leads players around to participating merchants where they will have to find faerie doors and collect clues. They have three days to complete the scavenger hunt. Participants turn in completed cards to be entered into a drawing for prize baskets.
