Farmers Markets bring variety and support local communities

Farmers Markets are where groups of farmers get together once or twice a week to sell their goods. They usually meet at a central location in any community. It is the oldest way for the public to have access to the freshest, locally grown produce, grass fed meats, free range poultry and farmstead cheeses. Not only farmers go to market but artists, musicians, chefs and neighbors join them each week. They have a wide variety of products from in season produce to baked goods, jams, jellies, herbs, relish and more. Beyond food, one can find anything from Ohio native plants & fresh cut flowers to hand made crafts, jewelry, soaps, candles and natural dog treats. There is a little bit of everything!

Shopping locally at Farmers Markets serves the community by introducing the consumer to the people that provide such products. Some markets couple the experience with live entertainment, cooking demonstrations and games. The atmosphere is festive and the vendors are very knowledgeable and pleasant. It's a great opportunity to buy quality items from people in the community, our neighbors.

There are not many Farmer Markets operating during the winter months in the Akron area. Check back soon to find when info on when they are opening for the season, where they are located and who will be attending. In the mean time, there are some local health food and farm markets to visit and find what products they have on hand. The main focus will be to support local producers and get to know the people that are so valuable to our community.
