Farmers markets are back in season

See also

This past difficult winter is just a memory now and lots of local farmer markets have opened for the season with the freshest produce that New Jersey has to offer.

The Princeton Farmers Market opened last week and features a wonderful selection of local produce, cheese and other sundries, as well as lovely craft items. It’s open every Thursday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., rain or shine on Hinds Plaza, (next to the Princeton Public Library). Click here for a full list of current vendors, which include Cherry Grove Organic Farm, Fruitwood Orchards, Good Enough for Kids with gluten-free, nut-free, and vegan options of granolas and muffins, Lima Family Farms selling fresh chickens, eggs, beef, pork, and lamb and Niamh Chocolates’ handmade artisan truffles.

West Windsor Community Farmers Market is located in the southbound Vaughn Drive parking lot of the Princeton Junction train station off of Alexander Road within one mile of Route 1. The Market will be open every Saturday from 9am-1pm until Saturday, November 22nd 2014. Find vendors here. They include Beechtree Farm, Great Road Farm, Griggstown Farm, Stults Farm, Terhune Orchards and WoodsEdge Wools Farm and new this year, Shibumi Mushroom Farms.

Trenton Farmers Market is open year-round. There is a huge list of vendors, including many local farms selling their fresh picked fruits and vegetables. A wide range of other local businesses selling food items and merchandise are there too, including butchers, bakers, and, yes, you can buy candles too. The market is located at 960 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township and open Wednesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Hightstown has been doing a good job at gaining support for their Farmers Market in Memorial Park as part of their Friday Nights at the Lake activities. The Farmers Market will be open for business every Friday from 5-8 p.m. beginning June 20 until September 12. (There will be live music from 6-8 p.m. each week.) For more information, call Rev. Heidi Bak at 609-220-8529. (When the website is up, I will update this listing..)
