Farmer Tom Miller shares farm life on Facebook

A farmer is a person engaged in agriculture, who raises living organisms for food or raw materials, generally including livestock husbandry and growing crops, such as produce and grain.

This story is about Tom Miller working on the family farm, Millerhurst, that was passed on down. His brothers James and Michael own the farm.

More to follow on what kind of farmer, although green beans can be found on the Millers' dinner plates, and said beans do not come from the grocery store.

For more clues enjoy Miller's photos at slideshow. Millerhurst is located in Ancramdale, New York.

Ancram, nearby, is a town in Columbia County, New York with a population of 1,513 at the 2000 census. The town was named after a location in Scotland, and it is in the eastern part of the country.

Tom Miller has been a farmer all his life.  He grew up on a farm in New York, not in the city (NYC), but rather in the state of New York.

A farmer usually works from daylight to sunset, and that goes for Tom Miller as well. Although now and then Mr. Miller actually takes the time to make notations, not always in his Farmer's Almanac, but on Facebook!

Some of this article's information comes from Miller's Facebook page. Future emails and interviews with Tom Miller will derive more about his farm, his family, and his life on the farm.

At the top of Miller's Facebook page it says that he attended Stissing Mountain Junior and Senior High and lives in Ancramdale, New York. In addition, Miller is a heavy equipment operator, working for Ancramdale Highway Deptartment.

Within this article are photos and notations given by Miller, himself, and friend Vicki from Facebook. For those who have no idea what farm life is like, enjoy reading some of their comments. They took place beginning July 21, 2011.

"Split rail and coated wire up around the yard! Just four gates to build and I'm ready for the greyhounds. Vicki thinks there is a lot of yard that we might want to post a 40 mph speed limit for Doc, ain't sure how fast the other two top out at!! - Tom Miller
Just today's picking. Get this much every three days. A LOT of beans! - Vicki
Ahhhh! Much needed rain yes yes!! Which means to the inside and grab the broom and start chasin furballs around the house!
Well let me see! Newborn in the pasture this morning with a crazy mama. Three broken motor mount bolts on the feedcart and a flat tire on one of my tractors. Wouldn't expect anything less on a Sat. morning.  Did I mention there are 55 fire units in town for the county convention and the ENY Holstein show and bbq in Rhinbeck today,  and the little lady told me to take a nap!" - Tom Miller

For an explanation of any of the above or to just chat about farm life and any life one might have outside the farm, (is there one?), feel free to follow him at Tom Miller.  By the way, Mr. Miller is a hard working man/farmer, a gentleman and an all around nice guy!
