June was a bittersweet month for fans of Backstreet Brewery in Ladera Ranch. After a very lengthy lease negotiation process, Backstreet and Lamppost decided to close their doors at this location at the end of June, leaving a void in Happy Hour patrons' and Mug Club members' hearts alike. As many who've read my previous articles know, Backstreet Brewery offered some outstanding brews (among them: ER IPA, Bodega Bitter, Rita Red, and who could forget... The Dirty German?!?) at unbeatable prices (especially during Happy Hour!), so their presence will undoubtedly be missed by many of the "regulars."
That said, the upside of the transition is that a highly-sought-after replacement will be gracing Ladera Ranch in Backstreet's absence: Selma's Chicago Pizzeria & Tap Room! With an extensive offering of high-quality brews, Selma's is sure to be a new favorite among the Ladera locals. Check out their current beer menu for a glimpse into the caliber of beer served daily, and let the mouthwatering begin. Estimated opening date is Fall 2011.
Cheers!
