Ubisoft confirmed several rumors Thursday by announcing “Far Cry 4.” The latest edition to the franchise is headed to the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC during the highly competitive holiday shopping season for 2014.

Far Cry 4” will be released on Nov. 18 in North America and Nov. 20 in Europe. The third-person shooter is being developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal studio in collaboration with Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Kiev. While the workload hasn’t been spelled out, it’s likely that Ubisoft Montreal will lead development on the PS4 and Xbox One with the other studios handling the other platforms.

The game takes place in a region of the Himalayas called Kyrat. It’s described as a “breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king.”

Following the model established in “Far Cry 3,” “Far Cry 4” is once again set in an open-world with a “a vast array of weapons, vehicles and animals.” The somewhat creepy key art released by Ubisoft also confirms that the primary antagonist will once again be an over-the-top, larger than life type figure.

Those that pre-order “Far Cry 4” will receive a free upgrade to the Limited Edition which includes “Hurk’s Redemption,” a series of three action-packed single-player missions featuring the character Hurk from the “Far Cry 3” DLC. The Limited Edition also includes Hurk’s signature harpoon gun called “The Impaler”.

Pre-orders at Best Buy and GameStop became available at the time this article was posted but expect Amazon and Walmart to come online soon as well. The GameStop listing confirms that the “Far Cry 4” will receive a $29.99 Season Pass but details on how much DLC will be released for the game has not been announced yet by Ubisoft.
