Week five of fantasy football sees the second week of byes, but luckily no true quarterback first team talent was lost this week. According to ESPN on Oct. 2, it is Robert Griffin III who is making the biggest strides so far this season, but as one of the quarterbacks on a bye, owners will have to wait a week to see if he keeps up his solid play.
Here are the fantasy football start em or sit em options for week five quarterbacks.
Start ‘Em
Philip Rivers – People who keep expecting Phil Rivers to revert to his form from the last two seasons might need to realize this is how he really should play. He has a new offensive scheme and it taking full advantage of it. He gets an Oakland defense that is good against the run and should throw the ball all over the field.
Michael Vick – Vick is also back to normal, much like Rivers, and this week he gets the (surprisingly) horrible New York Giants defense. He is the fourth highest scoring fantasy football player right now and will have a field day with the G-Men.
Terrelle Pryor – This is a sleeper pick. Pryor is coming back from a concussion, and he is not only starting but Oakland has demoted Matt Flynn to a third string quarterback. San Diego has allowed more fantasy points to quarterbacks than any other team and Pryor should run – and throw – well against them.
Sit ‘Em
Matt Sachaub – No matter what some would have you believe, Schaub is still a great fantasy football quarterback. This week, he is not someone you really want to rely on though because he gets the San Francisco 49ers defense. He is a good bye week player if needed, but he won’t be a star this week.
Alex Smith – Smith is scoring a lot of fantasy football points this season, but this week he gets a tough Tennessee Titans pass defense. This will be a week that Jamaal Charles runs a lot and Smith will do little but throw dump passes and scramble some himself.
Joe Flacco – The high paid Ravens’ quarterback has been about average this season. Last week, he threw five picks against the Buffalo Bulls. This week, he gets a Miami pass defense that is really good despite how they looked against the New Orleans Saints. Flacco is not Drew Brees and won’t be a good fantasy football option this week.
