Week four of the NFL fantasy football season sees the first byes, and with both the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers off, two top notch starting quarterbacks are out of action this week. ESPN reported on Sept. 25 that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have benched Josh Freeman, taking another starter out of commission.
Here is a look at the fantasy football start ‘em and sit ‘em options at quarterback for week four. Remember that this is not an obvious list with names like Peyton Manning on it, but a bubble starter list.
Robert Griffin III – Griffin said in a recent interview that the Washington Redskins was about to turn the corner, and nothing cures a team’s ills than playing the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have allowed over 21 fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, and RGIII should have a great game.
Andrew Luck – Even better than playing Oakland is playing the horrendous Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags defense also gives up over 21 fantasy points a game and can’t stop anyone. Luck should be one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy football in week four.
Terrelle Pryor – Just as Griffin should look good against Oakland, the Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor should also look great against the Redskins. Washington has given up eight touchdown passes this season, and with Pryor’s legs, he should put up solid numbers. He is a concussion risk though, so if he is out, substitute Tony Romo into this spot.
Eli Manning – Manning had a monster game in week one and had fantasy football players very excited. However, New York has fallen hard since then and the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the NFL’s top defenses right now, coming off big wins against both Philadelphia and Dallas.
Matt Schaub – It seems like the one-time reliable Schaub is hit or miss right now in his career. This week, no matter how good Schaub has been to fantasy football owners, he will have problems with the Seattle Seahawks defense. He is no better than a mid- to low level backup quarterback this week.
Jay Cutler – It would seem like Cutler would be a solid starting quarterback against the Detroit Lions, however the Lions have only allowed an average of 10.3 fantasy points a game to quarterbacks. Cutler might be decent as a bye week replacement, but he is not a solid starter this week.
