"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" gets release date

The latest of the "Harry Potter" franchise to be adapted to film, the spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," will be in theaters November 2016.

Warner Bros. confirmed a release date of November 18, 2016 for the film. The film is also rumored to be part of a trilogy. Other details, such as the director and cast, have yet to be confirmed. David Heyman, producer of all eight "Harry Potter" films, is set to produce.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" was written in 2001, between the publication of the fourth and fifth "Harry Potter" books, as a companion book modeled after the series' Hogwarts textbook of the same name. The films, set about 70 years before the start of the "Harry Potter" series, will follow magizoologist and textbook author New Scamander and are considered an "extension of the wizarding world" as opposed to prequels or sequels.
