After the news broke that Phil Robertson, one of the stars of A&E's Duck Dynasty had been suspended indefinitely because of remarks he made against homosexuality, his supporters took to social media, sharing their frustration with the decision and their support of the man at the center of the storm.
In less than 24 hours the Facebook fan page We Support Phil Robertson has garnered over 19,700 likes, and those joining the page are not just support Robertson but slamming the network for the decision.
"He stands for God and country," says one supporter named Joshua. "Let's stand with him." Another supporter named Curtis writes this: "It's a knee jerk reaction from the out of touch executives at A&E. They have no clue, apparently, of the demographics of those who watch the show. Phil expresses his views and even responded to the "controversy" by stating that he does not hate homosexuals. You can love homosexuals and still state that they are not living according to God's best plan for their lives."
The comments made by Robertson that prompted the decision come from an interview given to GQ Magazine. In his own statement on Wed. Robertson had this to say: "My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."
Season 5 of is set to premiere January 15. According to A&E, its fourth season premiere in August drew nearly 12 million viewers to become the No. 1 nonfiction series telecast in cable history.
