As part of the team’s #GSWCountdown and the NBA Cares Week of Service, the Golden State Warriors are inviting fans to participate in a Warriors Day of Service at San Francisco’s McLaren Park on Monday, October 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the team announced Thursday.
Fans interested in volunteering can sign up at warriors.com/volunteer and work side-by-side with Warriors players as well as Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts and Vice President of Public Affairs and Events Management Gail Hunter.
Fans who sign up to participate will join Warriors players, executives, members of the San Francisco Mayor’s Office and San Francisco Parks & Recreation department in beautifying San Francisco’s McLaren Park.
The park beautification will consist of painting touch-ups, cleaning up litter and trash as well as removing unhealthy and overgrown shrubs to help support the sight line of community members that use the park. Fans interested in participating in the Warriors Day of Service must sign up on warriors.com/volunteer by Thursday, October 17.
This event is part of the #GSWCountdown, in which the team’s players, coaches, ambassadors and staff will actively engage the Bay Area community every day leading up to the 2013-14 season opener on Wednesday, October 30 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Throughout the month of October, members of the Warriors’ organization will build excitement for the start of the season by surprising fans with item giveaways, special appearances and social media contests.
During NBA Cares Week, which takes place from October 21-27, NBA teams and players will participate in events and activities in an effort to give back to their communities in the areas of education, health and wellness and hands-on service.
Through NBA Cares, which is entering its ninth NBA season, the league and its teams and players have donated more than $205 million to charity, completed more than 2.1 million hours of community service, and created more than 750 places where kids and families can live, learn or play.
