Elvis Presley, the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” may have died 36 years ago, but his fans are as loyal today as they were when his rockabilly music and scandalous hip movements took the world by storm.
On Thursday night Aug. 15 thousands of Elvis Presley fans carrying candles walked silently though the Mediation Garden at Graceland. Elvis Presley was laid to rest on Aug. 18, 1977 in the Mediation Garden. Elvis’s mother Gladys and father Vernon are also buried on the Graceland estate.
Elvis Presley was born on Jan. 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Miss. Elvis’s twin brother Jessie Garon was stillborn. Elvis appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" three times, made numerous movies and garnered several awards. Elvis Presley married Pricilla Beaulieu on May 1, 1967. The Presley's only child, Lisa Marie, was born on February 1, 1968
This year’s candlelight vigil at Graceland kicked off “Elvis Week” in Memphis, a time to remember and celebrate the life of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Elvis Presley was 42 when he died on Aug. 16, 1977 of heart failure. Presley’s heart failure was brought on by his prescription drug abuse. Millions of fans all over the world continue to mourn the death of Elvis Presley. Each year Elvis fans gather at Graceland to remember "The King," his music, his movies and his legacy.
