Fans are not happy with Warner Bros.'s decision to have Ben Affleck play the role of Batman in 'Man of Steel' sequel. Fuming fans made over 30 petitions on Change.com, the White House Petition system, according to Variety on Aug. 23, 2013.
Perhaps his track record is the reason behind the massive fan backlash in the hours immediately after the information was made public. One petition stated that they wanted, “To make it illegal for Ben Affleck to portray Batman (or any superhero) on film for the next 200 years.”
Affleck was revealed on Thursday as the new Batman in the upcoming, but unnamed, 'Man of Steel' sequel, due in 2015. Warner Bros. released a statement, according to NBC News, "Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project — bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in 'Man of Steel.”
Zac Snyder will direct the film and is confident of Ben's acting abilities. “Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry’s Superman."
Warner Bros. confirmed that Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne, and Diane Lane would be in the sequel.
Affleck is no stranger to superheros as he starred in the 2003 movie Daredevil. But that film proved not successful, with it's 78 million dollars est. budget and only 102 million U.S. gross.
Do you think Ben Affleck should be the next Batman or is any other actor a better choice?
