On the season finale of “The Bachelor,” Sean Lowe picked Catherine Giudici over Lindsay Yenter and made history for being the first Bachelor ever to announce a televised wedding so quickly after becoming engaged on the reality TV show. On March 11, millions of fans sat on the edge of their seats and most were thrilled with the happy and seemingly fairytale ending.
After eliminating disappointed and heartbroken Lidsay, Sean Lowe bent down on one knee and proposed to Catherine in Thailand after receiving a last minute mystery letter from her. He declared on Monday’s season finale, “I don’t want to say goodbye anymore. Catherine, I want to spend the rest of my life telling you that I love you and making you feel like you’re the most special and beautiful woman in the world. Will you marry me?" Of course, she said yes and the two rode off into the sunset on an elephant.
Catherine Giudici, a 26-year-old marketing executive from Seattle, won the hearts of not only Sean Lowe and his parents, but also the hearts of America. Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook immediately lit up like fireworks over Thailand with warm wishes for the happy couple. Below are a few posts from Monday.
- “OK, that proposal was pretty amazing. She won me over in the end. And they rise off on an elephant together? I’m happy for you.”
- “I swear, this is the season that The Bachelor couple is going to make it.”
- “You made a good choice. I wish it was me.”
- “I’m so glad Sean chose Katherine!”
- “I’m so happy for them both. You can tell they are so much in love.”
- “I was pulling for Lindsay, but after seeing Catherine finally open up and bare her heart, I'm glad Sean chose her.”
- “Glad Sean is happy. Can’t wait to see the TV wedding they are planning.”
Sean and Catherine made their public debut as a couple on “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose.” Both seemed ecstatic and totally in love. Concerning her mystery letter, Catherine explained that she wrote it because “it came from my heart." She said that she wanted Sean to know her true feelings, regardless of his final choice.
Chris Harrison excitedly announced that Sean and Catherine have both agreed to get married on national TV and that ABC would carry their nuptials. “This is really big news. We’ve never had a couple in the 10 or 11 years we’ve been doing this come out of the gate so sincere, so serious and ready to take that next step. It really is beautiful,” the host stated after the finale of “The Bachelor.” He also revealed that Catherine is packed and ready to move to Texas, but that a wedding date is still up in the air as producers scramble to figure out the logistics of the wedding. Catherine said of her upcoming wedding to Sean, “I don’t see why there should be any waiting period. I just want to be his wife.” Sean responded enthusiastically, “I can’t wait to have the wedding!”
So, just as one chapter closes with a happy ending, another is set to begin. Chris Harrison announced that fan favorite Desiree Hartsock has been selected as the next star of “The Bachelorette.” Des was considered to be one of Sean’s front runners until her outspoken brother stepped into the picture on her hometown date. “I’m overcome with happiness,” she told Harrison. “I just hope to find the love that they found," she added, referring to Sean and Catherine. The new season of “The Bachelorette” begins airing this summer.
