Fans band together to bring back ‘Copper’ on BBCA (Video)

The television show “Copper” on BBCA was cancelled rather abruptly, in fact, almost as the credits ran on the season two closer. The show, which takes place in mid-1860s New York City, details the lives and loves of the Irish immigrants that came here after the potato famine and settled in the rough New York neighborhood of Five Points. Fans are not letting it go easily and are organizing to get BBCA to bring back “Copper.”

Was the show canceled for ratings? That doesn’t seem to be the case. “Copper” had the second highest ratings for the network in the past television season. The producers issued some vague statement about how it seemed like a natural time to end it. Was it really a good time to end it?

The show was left wide open after the assassination of Lincoln and death of John Wilkes Booth. Main characters Detective Kevin Corcoran, Major Robert Morehouse and former slave Dr. Matthew Freeman have just returned from the hunt for Booth. Detective Corcoran gets word that he’s wanted at Tammany Hall to replace recently- deceased General Brendan Donovan in that organization. Meanwhile, the favorite watering hole and house of ill repute is strangely empty with two bodies in barrels and the madam, recently in prison for murder, is missing. There’s a lot of holes left open here with no closure for fans.

Fans of the show have decided to do something about it. There are groups organized on Facebook and Google +, as well as Twitter campaigns, letter writing and email campaigns to show the producers how loved this show really is. If it absolutely can’t be renewed, fans would like to see it moved to another network.

If you would like to show your affection for “Copper” and desire for it to be back on the air, you can help by getting involved. Here’s how.

Email: Write to Tom Fontana. He is on the side of the fans and looking at doing the movie. Let him know you want the show back.

Sign: There is a petition at Change.org, among others. To sign this petition, click HERE.

Tweet: If you have a Twitter account, follow Save Copper TV HERE.

Facebook and Google +: There are many pages set up to save “Copper.”

Make a fan video. The video can be as simple as talking about why you love the show and think it should have been renewed. Upload it to You Tube and add the link to your emails and page comments for added emphasis. You can upload the video to You Tube HERE.

Please remember to be respectful and polite in all your communications.

As the old saying goes, “There’s strength in numbers.” If enough fans band together, the producers will take notice and something just may happen to put the gents and ladies of “Copper” back on the air.
