FanimeCon 2014 Friday full of various cosplay

As the largest anime convention in the Bay Area, the first day of FanimeCon 2014 (May 23-26) was expected to be a day of waiting in line at registration before wading through large crowds of people who were both in and out of cosplay at the dealers room and/or the artists alley to buy the latest anime goods and/or anime artwork.

Fortunately, that was not the case as FanimeCon adopted a new registration procedure that processed people in minutes instead of hours. So attendees could quickly start wading through large crowds of people who were both in and out of cosplay at the dealers room and/or the artists alley to buy the latest anime goods and/or anime artwork.

Amid the crowds, FanimeCon started off their 2014 convention with a colorful dose of cosplay from a variety of anime, video games, pop culture, and other media that I'm still trying to make out but it was definitely eye-catching. FanimeCon had its opening ceremonies on Friday that introduced the guests of this year including voice actor J Michael Tatum (his first FanimeCon appearance), anime historian Gilles Poitras, and musical guest Home Made Kazoku.

As the Friday of FanimeCon kicked off a weekend of cosplay, fan-run & guest panels, and main events like Cosplay Spectacular, one of the main events of FanimeCon Friday night was its swap meet. Anime fans had the chance to buy various good from fellow anime fans. It was a chance to share interests or discover an old oddity. But the line for the swap meet was long and windy; as long as windy as the registration line used to be. Coincidence?

But at least attendees already had their badges and were free to attend other official FanimeCon events while checking out the interesting cosplay that Friday.
