Fan made game turns Final Fantasy XI Online into a 16 bit single player RPG

A man who goes by "Jacob C" has taken the premise of Final Fantasy XI Online, an MMORPG, and turned back the clock on the game in the form of a classic 16-bit style, Super Nintendo era Final Fantasy game. Jacob, a six year veteran of the online game, decided to channel his love for the game into a unique project that can be shared with the world.

"I of course played FFXI for about 6 years, and always wanted to do a project related to the game. I recently played through all the Breath of Fire games and early Final Fantasy games, which made me curious if i could do it," Jacob said in an interview with Retro Game Network.

Jacob and his team have been hard at work on this project since mid-February, and have already put 80-100 hours of work into it in just a few short weeks. While the game is still in the early stages of development, this crew is very ambitious about a potential release date for the completed game.

"The latest will be by May; earliest will be in about around mid-late March," Jacob said in regards to the release date.

This game will include many of the marquee aspects of the original online game, such as geographical areas, character job classes, weapons, magic, and a lot more. You can follow the progress of this project by checking in with the project's Facebook page, which receives regular updates.
