Famous Libertarians? There are many

Libertarians are often seen as being "on the fringe" or having "kooky" ideas, however that is the past. Libertarianism has been catching on lately with many Americans and celebrities are not bashful to express their opinion on the issue.

Humorist author Dave Barry has been quoted as saying, "I'm a libertarian... Does it matter to me that it's Democrats who think we need more elaborate programs that involve shifting money from one group to another group, or it's Republicans saying we need to take a harder look at what kinds of things people are watching on cable TV? Neither one of those things strikes me as a good idea."

Legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood has said, "I like the libertarian view, which is to leave everyone alone. From a libertarian point of view, you would say, 'Yeah? So what?' You have to believe in total equality. People should be able to be what they want to be and do what they want -- as long as they're not harming people."

Sitcom star and comedian Drew Carey is a strong libertarian, even hosting a series for Reason.TV called 'The Drew Carey Project' with each episode dealing with a different subject, but always an overzealous government.

Angelina Jolie holds strong libertarian-leanings and wanting to star in the first Atlas Shrugged movie (released in 2011), however scheduling did not work out.

Actor Tom Selleck is another strong libertarian preferring private solutions to society's problems rather than a dependence on government. He has stated he is a registered independent with a lot of libertarian-leanings.

Author and drummer for the band Rush, Neil Peart is a longtime libertarian, even devoting the 1976 album '2112' to Ayn Rand, author of the tome 'Atlas Shrugged'.

The list of libertarian and libertarian-leaning celebrities is lengthy and the purpose of this article is to expose Americans to the idea libertarian ideals may be the best solution for America and to relate many people they know could very well be a libertarian.
