Famous chef too late, hotel foreclosed on.

Even Chef Ramsey of the popular “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Hotel Hell” couldn’t bring life back to Cambridge Hotel. Last summer Chef Ramsey and “Hell’s Kitchen” taped an episode at the Cambridge Hotel. Although the famous chef’s visit sparked interest and the make-over to the hotel appeared to improve business, it wasn’t enough. For the third time since 1997 the Cambridge Hotel was foreclosed on.
In June the Cambridge Hotel was sold to Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company at a foreclosure sale. The Cambridge Hotel is located in the village of Cambridge, town of Whitecreek In Washington County, about an hour north of the city of Albany.
The property has been in use as a hotel since the 1940’s. In 1945 Gann Hotels, Inc. bought the first parcel that would later become part the Cambridge Hotel property. They purchased a second parcel in 1947. A third parcel was purchased from The Delaware and Hudson Railroad in 1958. A fourth parcel was purchased in 1969.
Alan and Dorothy Bell purchased the parcels from Gann Hotels, Inc. by four separate deeds in 1994. They conveyed all four parcels to Cicada Corporation in April 1996. By December of 1996 Cicada Corporation was in foreclosure. Andrew Bell bought the property at the foreclosure sale in September of 1997. He sold the property to Cambridge Hotels, LLC in October of 1997.
Cambridge Hotel, LLC was able to hold onto the property until they were foreclosed on in 2006. At the foreclosure sale in July of 2006, Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company purchased the property. They sold the property to The Hotel Cambridge, LTD in August of 2007.
The Hotel Cambridge, LTD kept the hotel going until it was foreclosed on this past June. Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company repurchased the property and are currently the owners.
With Chef Ramsey’s help the Cambridge Hotel was able to turn sales around, but not in time to save the hotel from foreclosure. There are interested parties looking at the property and a sale may be pending in the near future. Possibly with the improvements made by Chef Ramsey and the media coverage, the new owners could breathe life back into the Cambridge Hotel.
