Family to Family Network presents March Conference on Special Needs

The Family to Family Network will be presenting their Success for Children with Disabilities Conference on March 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Houston Baptist University. The conference will include a resource fair and will focus on special education and transitions/transition planning. The conference includes three breakout sessions during the day, the first from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., the second from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., and the third from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

Pre-registration is currently open and will remain open until March 16.

The conference is $15 for people with disabilities, $25 for family members, and $50 for professionals. Social Workers may apply to receive 3 CEU hours. For those with limited funds, some stipends are available for those who meet the criteria; however, for those who apply for and receive a stipend, lack of attendance will result in being charged for the conference.

The first session (9:15 to 10: 15 a.m.) includes presentations on

The second session (10:45 to 11:45 a.m.) includes presentations on

  • Accommodations & Modifications
  • Adult Day Activity Programs
  • Creating a Plan for the Future
  • DARS Transition Services
  • Employment Training Program
  • Full & Individual Evaluation
  • The Last Transition: Planning for Inevitable
  • Transition Apps for Independence
  • Transition from ECI to Public School
  • Working Out Conflicts

The third session (12:15 to 1:15 p.m.) includes presentations on

  • A Home of Your Own is Possible
  • Employment – What You Need to Know
  • Estate Planning for Families
  • Functional Behavior Assessment
  • My Kid in One Page or Less
  • Skills That Matter
  • Special Programs on College Campuses
  • The Client Assistance Program & DARS
  • What to Do When You Disagree
  • Why Special Ed Parents Pull Their Hair Out
