A divorce is never an easy process. It becomes even more difficult when kids are involved. Celebrities, supermodel Heidi Klum and Kiss from a Rose singer Seal were left with no choice but to let their four children know they would be getting a divorce. The process each parent takes can differ from parent to parent. Some might choose to tell their kids directly, while others might opt for a trained professional to share the news with the children. In Seal and Heidi’s case, the power couple chose to tell the children themselves. In the hope of sparing the children an additional emotional pain, they opted to directly share the information regarding their divorce with their children.
Healthy family relationships rely on trust and a clear understanding of what is taking place. In the case of divorce, some children tend to internalize feelings of guilt when their parents let them know they have chosen to get a divorce. Being clear on the reasons for your divorce, or as clear as you can be with children, can assuage any concerns they kids might have, particularly children that think they are the cause of your breakup. "Just explaining to them that things will be different, you know, without going into too much detail," the "Kiss from a Rose" singer said. "But a lot of things won't change."
"The main thing," Seal continued, "is to make sure that they feel that they're loved, make sure that they understand that their parents love each other, make sure that they understand if there are any changes, it is absolutely nothing to do with them."
