Becoming a ‘Hero for Hope’ has many segments to it as Family Shelter Service (FSS) in DuPage County will attest to. While they have their annual 5K/10K Walk/Run coming up in September, they welcome all types of participants to this event besides the walkers and runners.

Take for instance donors and sponsors to this event. One particular donor has gone above and beyond this year. Besides the run/walk that people have come to expect, there are also auctions that will take place in order to raise greater funds so that FSS will be able to continue serving people now and well into the future. The total amount received from the auction will go straight toward the programs of FSS.

The gift donated this year is one week in a suite that sleeps four to six people in a timeshare called the Mayan Palace. This stunning resort property on the Riviera Maya is located on the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula.

The lucky winner will be able to travel to this destination anywhere from the beginning of October until anytime through the week of New Year’s of 2015. For some lucky bidder this is a dream come true!

Bids begin at $800. To participate, all you have to do is email your bid and your contact data to You will be kept abreast of the status of your bid. Bidding will close on Thursday, August 7th. For more photos, details and the current bidding status, click here.

Besides donors and participants, there are the sponsors that make this type of an event possible in the first place. This year the sponsors for the Be a Hero for Hope 5K/10K Run/Walk include the following:

· 95.9 The River

· Suburban Life

· Lisle Savings Bank

· Trust Company of Illinois

· Completely Crazy

· Primal Fit Training

· Ultra Foods

These sponsors make it possible through donating supplies and financial aid to keep the event up and running. Many times volunteers will donate their time as well – as is the case with Ian Matthews, Owner/Trainer of Primal Fit Training.

Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to service those living within it that needs rescue and a new beginning. Family Shelter Service is there to provide that service and welcomes each and every member of the community to participate in the way that behooves them best and are grateful for whatever they contribute!
