Each year Family Shelter Service (FSS) hosts their biggest fundraiser of the year in the springtime, perhaps because the spring season is considered to be one of hope. This year, FSS will present The Magic Carnevale; A Celebration of Hope on Friday, April 11th at The Abbington in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. This year’s event is surely one you will not want to miss! It is simply that special!
The good folks in charge of the event for Family Shelter Service chose the theme due to the mask. This year’s Gala theme symbolizes the mask. This is because each day, the women and children affected by domestic abuse must don a mask. Whether they may be your competent co-worker, a happy go-lucky mom you are acquainted with, or God forbid, a relative, underneath the mask these ladies are confused and torn. Unfortunately for them, while tenacity helps them to go on, it may also help them to hold on in hopes that the happy relationship that they often “dream” of having may still be able to be accomplished with their abuser.
In order to support these women throughout their journey of discovery to a safe haven, FSS conducts this annual Gala so that they will be able to continue to do all of the charitable works they can to make it possible for the women and children in these type situations at the least get to safety. The public is then able to participate charitably when they attend and enjoy a setup like the following:
· Dinner, Music and Dancing, Cocktails
· Silent and Live Auctions for sports tickets, trips, gift baskets and other great items
· Grand Raffle for one of three luxury trips
· Performance by ArtBeat Live
Many of the organizations that participate in the Gala have partnered with FSS to help them achieve their mission of Transforming lives by offering help and hope to those affected by domestic violence. The organizations are just as determined as the Shelter to see domestic violence come to an end.
The committee members in charge of the Gala always like to bring a new surprise each year. This year they are pleased to report that six members of the NFL Players Association will be joining the Gala. Falling right in line with the cause, the NFL Players Association is a non-profit service organization; a group of former professional football players that work voluntarily to support area charities. As soon as the lineup is received, it will be announced which “special guests” will be likely to attend.
All-in-all, the night will be one of promises made and promises kept. Perhaps some of the masks will be able to be shed as the women and children that receive help from Family Shelter Service won’t have to hide in public any longer!
