Camp Niwana in Woodville, Texas will be hosting their annual Family Picnic & Kite Festival on March 22 at their beautiful location in the deep east Texas pineywoods. Camp Niwana is only about an hour's drive from Nacogdoches, so it's a perfect day trip for you and your family. This event is "BYOP" (Bring Your Own Picnic") so pack up some sandwiches and soda for your family and come out for the day. (no alcohol, please). The camp has two large fields with no power lines overhead, so it's also a great place for flying kites and since March is often windy, they recommend bringing your kites, too. This event will be held rain or shine, and if it does rain, don't worry - there is an indoor lodge so you can still picnic inside a building.
The Family Picnic Day coincides with Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, which is a letter-writing event sponsored by the national youth organization of Camp Fire every year on the 3rd Thursday of March. Everyone is encouraged to take a few minutes to write a letter to a child you know and tell them some of the things that you think make them absolutely incredible, offering words of encouragement and inspiration. This is a powerful opportunity to have an important impact on a child's life. Learn more about Camp Fire here.
Special stationary and other supplies will be available at the camp during the picnic, so you can write a letter while you are there. Service organizations such as church groups, adult Sunday school classes, sororities and fraternities and others are all invited to participate in the letter-writing campaign for Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, too.
