The French government confirms its belief that Islamist militants from neighboring Nigeria were responsible for the kidnapping of a family of seven French tourists. Four of the seven are children.
The family was abducted from the Waza national park, about six miles from the Nigerian border. The park is popular among western tourists. Authorities believe they were taken by gunman on motorcycles.
Six weeks ago, the French government launched a military intervention into the west African country of Mali but it is unknown if the kidnapping is connected with that military action.
