If there is one thing you know about LA TV Insider Examiner, it is not only just how much we love television (obviously), but also how tightly we hold onto beloved programming from our younger days. It is one of the reasons we were so taken with Warner Brothers' Television: Out of the Box exhibit at the Paley Center for Media here in Los Angeles when we first wandered the rows of costumes, props, and set pieces earlier this year. That is why today's announcement from Warner Brothers has warmed our television (and nostalgia!) loving hearts.
You see, Family Matters star Darius McCrary (Eddie Winslow himself!) stopped by a special private party at Paley for the TCA earlier this week, and he brought with him one of his infamous outfits from his nine-year run on the family sitcom.
The outfit (which you can see in photo form above) was a red leather-and-twill cotton blazer, ruffled white shirt, black pants and black patent leather-and-suede shoes. Do you remember seeing it on-screen? McCrary wore it during a karaoke competition in the season five episode “Aunt Oona” (featuring legendary singer Donna Summer guest starring as the dowdy Aunt Oona from Altoona, who surprised everyone with her unknown singing ability) and came from McCrary’s own collection. It will be displayed alongside a costume and bowtie worn by costar Jaleel White as Steve Urkel.
McCrary has loaned the classic piece of wardrobe to the Television: Out of the Box exhibit, on display at the Paley Center through 2014. If you're in L.A., stop by and see the items in person! They look even better than they did on TV-- even after all of these years!
