Family long weekend in Boston: Day 3 (Photos)

The first two days were planned out, so why not put the final day of the long weekend to a vote. Cater day 3 to your family’s specific interests.

Shower and pack the night before and check-out of your hotel early to avoid time pressure. Just have them hold onto your bags and swing by later. While you are deciding on eggs or pancakes, also select one of the following: 1) Boston Children’s Museum engages the mind and is just plain fun, but it does cater to the younger crowds. 2) The MFA, Museum of Fine Arts Boston has breathtaking permanent and special exhibits. The building is magnificent and they often run special activities for younger patrons. 3) Tours of Fenway Park take place year round and give a different perspective to the over 100-year old ballpark, home of the Boston Red Sox. If a Fenway tour is not available, try the TD Garden, arena of the Boston Bruins and Celtics. It houses the Boston Sports Museum, but only runs tours during the off-season.

Lunch on this day all depends on the winner of the big election. It might be worth the Children’s Museum winning just so you can head to The Barking Crab. Located on the water and just a block away from the Museum, this spot is a casual seafood favorite for locals and tourists alike. The area surrounding the MFA is consumed by Northeastern University and the food along Huntington Avenue is primarily student-oriented fast food. However, the Museum itself has four great eating options. Bravo and Taste are geared to adults, but New American Café and Garden Cafeteria would be just right. If you managed to get on a Fenway tour, then why not keep the sports theme going and chow down at Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar and Grill.

Depending on when you need to skip town, you can fill those last couple hours with a little relaxed shopping at the Prudential Center or visit their Skywalk Observatory for great panoramic views of the city. Didn’t you promise the kids a Souvenir?

The long weekend may be done, but come back to Boston soon. There is always more to see and do in this great city.
