It finally feels like summer in the Rogue Valley, just in time for Independence Day. July 4, 2011 marks the 235th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and brings with it celebrations across the nation, including our home here in southern Oregon.
If you're planning to head out to one of the weekends celebrations, you'll want to check event times and locations so that you can coordinate with your backyard BBQ, pool parties, and squeeze in a fireworks show or concert!
The City of Eagle Point, OR has been using Facebook & Twitter to get the word out about all of its planned events for July 4th, beginning with a pancake breakfast, followed by a parade and street fair on Main Street, culminating with an evening fireworks show after dark. Boy Scout Troop 28 placed American flags on display throughout the city. If you don't use the social media sites, then check out 541 Live's page.
Other cities with planned parades/fireworks shows include Ashland, Central Point, and of course, the popular "Red, White & Boom" event, which has moved this year from U.S. Cellular Community Park to the Expo in Central Point. That event features concerts and other performances throughout the afternoon and evening hours leading up to the fireworks finale.
One of the highlights this year should be the planned fly-overs of all southern Oregon 4th of July events by the Oregon National Guard.
