St. Patrick day falls during the Christian Lent observations. St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated since the death of the saint in the 5th Century. The custom of not eating meat was waived during this day of Lent so that they could feast on traditional bacon and cabbage during their celebrations. According to History the first parade was not in Ireland but in New York City. On March 17, 1762 Irish soldiers serving in the English military started a parade in celebration of their saint.

The 3K along with the festival and parade are a great way to spend time with your family in an active, healthy way. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience a culture that may not be your own. A way to experience food and entertainment in a new and exciting way. For those that are Irish it is a reminder of your rich ancestral heritage.
