There has always been a little fuss over cheerleader outfits being too revealing, but year by year the outfits reveal more and more to appeal to the seemingly male dominated football crowd. The Philadelphia Eagles are the latest to go with the "less is more" approach, as they are set to debut their new cheerleader outfits tomorrow. The outfits, described as extremely athletic, were designed by well known fashion designer Vera Wang, who is good friends with owners of the Philadelphia Eagles team. Wang has designed athletic outfits before, with a clientele that boasts ice skating star Nancy Kerrigan, but never before have the outfits been so revealing. Wang has also designed cheerleader outfits for the team in previous seasons.
“Vera beautifully achieved our vision for the signature pieces with a fashion forward and sporty look that represents our style," Christina Weiss Lurie (one of the Eagles owners) stated. "We feel the uniforms are ideal for the cutting-edge image of the cheerleaders – chic while displaying athleticism.” While the outfits do show a great deal of athleticism and team spirit, could they be too revealing for a game that is supposed to family friendly? Many have taken to the internet to express their disgust in the outfits being too racy and inappropriate, while some (mainly men) feel that if a woman has the body she should flaunt it as often as she pleases. Will this cheerleader outfit detail cause the Philadelphia Eagles to lose fans?
